Bring them back to the altar.
An old photograph, mended and given its colour back for Día de los Muertos. The face is never altered.

Most of these people's names were never written down. Choose one to place them on the altar.

Black and white, faded or creased is fine. A phone photo of the print works.

Usually under a minute.
What happens to the photo
Mend
GFPGAN repairs blur and damage on the face. It is blended with the original at 60%, so they still look like themselves.
Colour
DDColor predicts colour for black-and-white and sepia prints. The light and detail stay from the original photo.
Depth
Depth Anything V2 estimates what is near and far. The page uses it for candlelight and gentle movement.
Check
An ArcFace face-recognition model compares the face before and after. The score is shown under every portrait.
What it cannot do
- Know the real colours. Every colour is the model's guess.
- Restore side profiles as well as faces looking at the camera.
- Move, re-pose or give words to a face. It is built not to.
